Blizzard Entertainment president Mike Ybarra tweeted on Tuesday afternoon that the firm was dealing with “a major DDoS attack” on its systems. Blizzard Entertainment is an Activision subsidiary. DDoS assaults, also known as denial-of-service attacks, occur when traffic is directed towards a company’s servers that host a website, essentially taking it offline.

At the time of Overwatch 2’s release, users had to wait in long lines to try out the new game. The sequel to the critically popular Overwatch video game, which was released six years ago, is one of Activision’s marquee titles this year.

Activision A request for comment from Blizzard was not answered.

Players on Twitter complained about connectivity troubles even before the attack. Teams were working on server issues and were “humbled by the excitement of players” according to a tweet from Ybarra earlier in the day.

The National Labor Relations Board discovered, according to the Washington Post, that the corporation delayed raises for some of its personnel because they were involved in union organizing campaigns, casting doubt on the launch’s prospects.

In January, Microsoft Corp. disclosed that it had reached a deal to acquire the video game distributor for close to $69 billion. The software behemoth is under regulatory examination due to worries that the acquisition would restrict competition.
