Chris Rock was reportedly invited back to the awards presentation but does not intend to attend despite this.
Even though the Will Smith controversy occurred months ago, fans are still in shock at what transpired when the actor slapped Chris Rock live on stage during the Academy Awards. After the host comedian cracked a GI Jane joke on Jada Pinkett-buzz Smith’s cut, which was the product of the actress’ protracted battle with alopecia, there was an incident.
While the Will Smith slap incident may have helped the Oscars because it increased attention, the scandal has largely avoided public debate about who is at fault. Fans have been debating it, and there have been numerous memes and remarks about it. Chris Rock recently stated that he has no immediate plans to return to the Academy Awards, despite it continuing to be the talk of the town.
Chris Rock Refuses To Take The Oscars Stage Again
The actor-comedian claimed that the Academy approached him with an offer to host the Academy Awards again in 2023 during the Phoenix, Arizona leg of his sold-out stand-up tour, but he rejected the offer.
He added that he was also approached about appearing in a Super Bowl commercial, which he also declined.
Rock allegedly compared going back to the Oscars to returning to the scene of the crime.
He made light of Nicole Brown Simpson’s murder to defend his choice not to host the event, suggesting that it would be like asking her “to go back to the restaurant” where she had her last meal before being fatally murdered.
He also briefly discussed the now-famous slap, claiming that it was an unfair fight due to Smith’s larger stature and the fact that the Best Actor winner had previously portrayed Muhammad Ali.
“He’s bigger than me,” he declared. Nevadan officials would not permit a fight between Will Smith and me.
Thankfully, after facing criticism for his unruly behaviour, Smith posted an apology to Rock and the Academy on his social media account.
According to rumours, his wife Jada also pressured him to issue a public apology even though he reportedly didn’t want to.
After the incident with Chris Rock, Will Smith expressed his regret
Smith has now apologised for acting in a “unacceptable” manner during the Oscars and expressed a desire to reconcile with Rock.
He said, “I went out to Chris, and the response I got was that he’s not ready to talk, but he will reach out when he is. I’ll tell you, Chris, that I’m sorry. I’m available to speak with you anytime you’re ready, and my behaviour was inappropriate.
Us Weekly insider, however, claimed that Smith never really wanted to publicly apologise but was forced to do it because of his wife, Jada.
It was claimed that Jada persuaded him to make amends with Chris. Thankfully, the actor expressed regret for his actions, whether or not they were justified.
Unquestionably, the episode constituted a major scandal. Smith has been prohibited from attending the Academy Awards for the following ten years as a result of his acts.
Rock, though, seems to have lost interest in returning to the crime scene. In fact, it’s been said that he rejected Smith’s apologies.
Will Smith’s apology wasn’t accepted by Chris Rock
The comedian-actor grabbed the stage while Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle began their European stand-up tour and dedicated a short amount of his lengthy set to discussing Will Smith’s apology video.
According to Deadline, Rock wasted no time responding to the apology video with a very direct “f*** your hostage video!”
He continued, ” “Yes, it stung like sh**. He performed Ali. I can’t even play Floyd Mayweather,” he said, addressing the video of his public apology for the first time.
Rock was also asked by Chappelle if it hurt. God**** right, Rock retorted. The nicest joke I’ve ever told, the motherf***** punched me over it.
Chappelle then stated that while though he is unclear of his reaction if Smith had slapped him onstage at the Oscars, the actor is positive that he would not have “enjoyed the rest of his night” at the event.
He continued, “I just hope he doesn’t put that mask back on,” after saying that Smith was “impression of a perfect man for 30 years.”
Although it’s unknown at the moment if Will Smith and Chris Rock will ever have the chance to reconcile, it’s pretty obvious that their relationship will never be the same again.
