- Erin Moriarty, star of “The Boys,” replied to fans who sent her cruel words about her appearance.
- The Starlight actor posted an article from a supporter of Moriarty on Instagram.
- The unkind remarks, Moriarty continued, had made her feel “silenced” and “dehumanised.”
Moriarty published photos of a Medium piece titled “#IStandWithStarlight? : The betrayal of Erin Moriarty by The Boys ‘fans'” on Instagram. The essay condemned the nasty words and “misogyny” Moriarty had received. Moriarty portrays the superhero Starlight in the popular Amazon series. Since the third season’s debut, this has become more prevalent.
I do sense being silent. I do feel less than human. True, I’m paralysed. I’ve sacrificed blood, sweat, and tears for this position (over & over & over again). We adapt and progress both mentally and physically, therefore I’ve grown UP in this character’s shoes, Moriarty wrote on Instagram.
This does crush my heart – I’ve opened up a vein for this part and the misogynistic trolling is exactly what this role (Annie) would speak out against,” says Moriarty in response to the article’s author, @butcherscanary.
Everyone is going through their own battles; let’s not add to that, the actor continued. I’ll never purposefully (and EVEN LESS SO publically) add to yours. I see you, I don’t hate you, I simply sympathise and forgive. This has only improved my capacity for empathy.
Additionally, Moriarty shared this passage from the article on her Instagram account, emphasising the sentence that reads, “But Annie is fictional, and Erin is not.”
The “Boys” co-stars who play Moriarty have sided with her. Nate Mitchell, who plays Black Noir’s Moriarty, reposted the piece to his own tale.
Costar Anthony Starr showed their support in the replies and added, “support you and what you say here 100%. Well put 😉 Your work on the show is and always has been stellar and you are beautiful inside and out. Keep shining 😉 xo.”
Hughie, who plays Starlight’s lover, is portrayed by actor Jack Quaid “3 you, Erin. All of us are here for you. You are such a phenomenally talented force of nature, and I count myself extraordinarily fortunate to have met you. Do not dim your light. Let us handle the trolls. You’re covered by us.”
