The move came once Kanye’s recent rants enclosed a message criticized as victimisation anti-Semitic language. Now, Kanye West can’t post, comment or send DMs.
Kanye West’s Instagram account was suspended on Saturday, October 8 for breaking the social media platform’s rules. The Meta company deleted some of Kanye’s recent posts, including one that was criticized for employing anti-Semitic terminology, in addition to placing restrictions on the account, which prevent him from posting, commenting, or sending direct messages.
When contacted by the outlet, a Meta representative declined to say which information was removed or how long the restriction would stay. The choice was made, though, when Kanye released a since-deleted post on Friday about an alleged conversation he had with Diddy in which Kanye seemed to suggest that Diddy was under the control of Jews, alluding to a long-standing anti-Semitic conspiracy theory. “Jesus is Jew,” read the caption of the message.
After the ban was put in place, Kanye appeared to respond by switching to Twitter early on Saturday – a medium he hasn’t used since 2020 — and dragging Meta’s founder, Mark Zuckerberg. “Look at this Mark, how you going to take me off Instagram,” the rapper tweeted with a picture of Kanye hanging out with Mark.
Fans may not be shocked by the ban, of course, given that Kanye has just been engaging in one of his infamous social media rants. The “Famous” rapper defended his “White Lives Matter” shirt, attacked Gabriella-Karefa Johnson, editor of Vogue, for denouncing the shirts, slammed Gigi Hadid and Hailey Baldwin for standing up for Gabriella, and further denigrated a handful of his friends.
In many of his rants, Kanye persisted in claiming that he was kept in the dark about the whereabouts of the birthday celebration for their daughter Chicago, one of the four children he and his ex-Kim Kardashian share.
Although we may never know if Kanye’s personal jabs contributed to the restriction, they undoubtedly hurt his cause. Furthermore, the “Famous” rapper has previously been afoul of Instagram for his postings. Kanye’s account was suspended for a full 24 hours in March when he used a derogatory term to describe the host of The Daily Show, Trevor Noah.
