Ninety years ago, the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935 made landfall in the Florida Keys as the strongest hurricane in recorded U.S. history. Yet it was merely a tropical storm three days before. The rapid intensification near landfall is actually common for the some of the strongest storms to hit the U.S.
